The photographic series, Revisiting Rockwell contemporizes Rockwell’s original works by weaving into each photograph the social and political issues more suggestive of today. The examination of nostalgia in Rockwell’s work translates into our rapidly changing lifestyles and his very human tableaux effectively reflects this moment in time.
In such tumultuous times, I often question what it means to be American and how I fit into that picture as a White, upper middle class woman. The historical and social contexts of Rockwell’s illustrations and paintings provide a rich backdrop in which to examine my personal identity and thus comment on my role as an American today within the larger construct of current societal systems. I can not help but notice, despite the ever changing sociological landscape, for better or worse, there is much that remains the same.
